MESA Pre-Engineering Family Conference 2007
Call for Volunteers
Want to contribute your time and lend a hand to a community event? MESA is seeking volunteers for its 2007 Pre-Engineering Family Conference. The conference is designed to help diverse middle and high school students and their families learn about engineering career paths and the college planning process. Our goal is to offer workshops and presentations that are useful and engaging to students and families. To learn more about Oregon MESA's mission and who we serve, click here. The conference will be held on April 14, 2007 at Portland State University. Approximately 450 people are expected to attend.
How much time do I need to contribute?
We are encouraging a minimum of a 2 hour block, but you can stay all day if you like! You may select from the following block times to meet your schedule. Lunch is provided to those who can stay (12:30pm-1:30pm).
Volunteers are needed for the following time and goings-on:
►7:00am-9:30am Set Up & Registration
►9:00am-11:30am Escort & Presentation Room Attendant
►11:00am-1:30pm Escort & Presentation Room Attendant
►1:00pm-3:30pm Escort & Presentation Room Attendant
►11:00am-2:00pm Lunch & Table Presentation Attendant
►3:00pm-5:00pm Clean Up
What would I be doing?
Helping us make sure that the conference runs smoothly! Anything from helping the presenters start their presentations to walking participants to their next session. See the list of volunteer duties below.
Volunteer Duties
- Set Up: Check rooms for the conference presenters to ensure their set up is complete and put up conference signage around the PSU campus.
- Registration: Check-in incoming participants, presenters, volunteers. Provide information about conference scheduling, guide to conference opening, help with directions, answer questions, etc. The registration table will also serve as the general conference information station.
- Escort: Greet, guide, and direct participants to and from events through out the day.
- Presentation Room Attendant: Troubleshoot issues that may arise and provide presenters with any assistance they need. Technical skills a plus, but not required.
- Lunch Attendant: Facilitate the lunch process by directing people to tables, navigating the lunch flow, etc.
- Table Presentation Attendant: Industry and Education Partners will have tables displayed during the lunch hour. Assistance will be needed to check-in presenters, set up and break down presentations.
- Clean Up: Assist in the general clean up of the conference presentations rooms, lunch area, and take down of conference signage around the PSU campus
